A prestigious Country House in Plettenberg Bay is seeking a talented, passionate, and experienced Head Chef to lead the kitchen team and deliver exceptional dining experiences

This position is ideal for a creative culinary professional who thrives in a boutique hospitality environment, values fresh local ingredients, and has a passion for producing innovative, high-quality cuisine.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of kitchen operations, ensuring exceptional food quality and presentation.
  • Design and develop seasonal menus that showcase fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
  • Prepare and present breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special event menus to the highest standards.
  • Lead, train, motivate, and develop the kitchen team.
  • Ensure consistency in food preparation, portion control, and presentation.
  • Manage food costing, budgeting, and stock control to achieve financial targets.
  • Source quality suppliers and maintain strong supplier relationships.
  • Monitor inventory levels and oversee purchasing and ordering processes.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment.
  • Work closely with management to enhance the overall guest experience.
  • Accommodate dietary requirements and special guest requests.
  • Assist with private dining experiences, functions, and special events.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Head Chef or Senior Sous Chef within a luxury hotel, lodge, country house, or fine dining establishment.
  • Relevant culinary qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary cuisine and modern cooking techniques.
  • Proven experience in menu development and kitchen management.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong understanding of food costing, budgeting, and stock management.
  • Knowledge of HACCP and food safety standards.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure while maintaining exceptional standards.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Passion for hospitality and guest satisfaction.
