Overview

A prestigious 5‑star lodge in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve is seeking a professional, guest‑focused Field Guide to join their guiding team. The ideal candidate will deliver exceptional, safe, and educational safari experiences while embodying the lodge’s high standards of hospitality and conservation ethics.

Full Trails Guide qualification is highly advantageous, but not essential. All other guiding paperwork and compliance must be fully up to date.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct morning and afternoon game drives of the highest standard
  • Host guests professionally, ensuring a warm, engaging, and memorable safari experience
  • Lead bush walks (if qualified) with strict adherence to safety protocols
  • Provide accurate, insightful interpretation of wildlife, ecology, and conservation
  • Maintain all guiding equipment, vehicles, and rifles in excellent condition
  • Assist with guest arrivals, departures, and lodge hosting as required
  • Support conservation initiatives and uphold reserve rules and ethical guiding practices
  • Work collaboratively with trackers, lodge management, and other departments
  • Ensure guest safety at all times, including during wildlife encounters
  • Participate in ongoing training, assessments, and lodge activities

Minimum Requirements

  • FGASA Field Guide (NQF2 / Level 1) or higher
  • Full Trails Guide qualification advantageous (not essential)
  • Valid PDP
  • Valid First Aid Level 1
  • VPDA (Viewing Potentially Dangerous Animals)
  • SAPS Rifle Competency + Advanced Rifle Handling
  • DEAT/LEDET Registration (or ability to register immediately)
  • At least 2 years’ experience guiding in a Big 5 environment
  • Excellent communication skills and strong command of English
  • Professional, well‑presented, guest‑centric approach
  • Strong work ethic, sober habits, and ability to work flexible hours
  • Passion for conservation, wildlife, and guest engagement
